Researcher Support
University of the Arts London courses, workshops and internal structure supports researchers' professional development throughout their careers.
These underpin UAL's commitment to 'The Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers'.
UAL also provides early career researcher training and supervisor support training, a research mentoring scheme and sabbatical leave scheme to support staff with their research and projects.
Current UAL Researchers can visit the research section on the staff intranet to get detailed information about these policies and support.

Research ethics
The University is committed to supporting good practice in research and scholarly activity. It considers it to be fundamental that research should be conducted in accordance with ethical principles.
The University's Code of Practice on Research Ethics sets out the guiding principles and outlines the obligations and responsibilities for conducting research in an ethical manner. This document is part of the University's framework for supporting good practice in research.
Research data management
The University is committed to data management as a core scholarly activity and a key element of good research practice. It wholly supports initiatives by Research Councils UK to provide open access to research data and is fully compliant with the EPSRC infrastructure mandates.
The University is responsible for providing the necessary support to ensure that researchers meet all funder requirements relating to research data. It is continuing to develop a strong framework of training and resources to achieve this aim.

Research Management and Administration (RMA)
UAL Research Management and Administration (RMA) provides all administrative services related to externally funded research projects, research students, research finances and research communications as well as coordination of the University’s Research Centres.
RMA also supports research Staff Development, the Professoriate and all College/University Research Committees.
Research Student Team
The Research Student team supports all aspects of the Research Degree Programme, providing guidance and support to all University research degree students throughout their time of study, as well as working with the Director of Doctoral Programmes to develop the RNUAL programme of activities to enrich students’ research experience at UAL.
All applications and PhD student affairs for all colleges are handled through this section, including financial support.

Research Communications
The RMA Communications team manages and maintains the research website including researcher web profiles (staff and student) and is responsible for supporting the dissemination of information related to UAL research activity including funded projects, by developing and organising research events, publicising activity via social media channels, producing publications (both digital and print).
It also supports the University's Research Professoriate.

Research Finance
The RMA Finance team ensure that planning and expenditure against research budgets is related to strategic and operational plans, and is compliant with UAL and appropriate external guidelines and regulations.
It oversees, monitors and reports on budgeting, Internal Finance, Auditing, all Special Project expenditure, full Economic Costing, and the Principal Investigator Incentive Scheme.
Research Funding
The Research Funding team manages all externally funded research projects and supports researchers in finding potential sources of finance for their projects, drawing up research proposals, preparing costings for a project and submission of applications.
It also manages all ongoing externally funded research projects including periodic and final reporting.

Research Networks
UAL Research Networks provides a cohesive framework of support and development for research centres and builds network collaborations in tandem with a progressive grant award strategy, which focuses upon research strengths at UAL.
The team explores and utilises exciting new models for research project connectivity and grant award development across UAL and with national and international collaborative partners. It supports and manages all Research Centre activities and finances.
