Shaneika Johnson-Simms & Raphael Boamah-Asare
Shaneika Johnson-Simms and Raphael Boamah-Asare met while on the BA (Hons) Media Practice course, now renamed BA (Hons) Film Practice at LCC. They formed a collaborative partnership Asare Simms and have produced several films together. Most notably, they were recently commissioned by Adjust Your Set to work on their Youth State research project, which explores the issue of identity among young people.
What did you study at LCC and what year did you graduate?
We did the FdA Media Practice course and BA (Hons) Media Practice Top-Up, graduated in 2015.
Where are you from in the world?
S: I’m from North London.
R: I was born in Amsterdam and raised in the UK from the age of three.
What are your fondest memories of LCC?
S: Pitching my script ideas and having to compete to have them go ahead. It taught me that you have to really know what you want to communicate with your story and how you plan on doing it in every aspect.
R: Each time I worked on a major project and meeting my business partner Shan.

Tell us about your future plans and ambitions:
To grow the Asare Simms brand.
What drives you to succeed?
S: Knowing that I have so much more to accomplish.
R: The passion I have for the business I’m in and the stories I want to tell.
What piece of advice would you give to new students?
S: Start your career before graduation.
R: Make your own choices.
Where in London do you go when you need a little inspiration?
We don’t have a set place to be honest; we can do what we need to do wherever we are.
