The ability to style hair professionally is a key skill for make-up artists. To be a serious contender in this industry, make-up artists must be capable of styling hair to meet clients' requirements. This practical course is for make-up artists who are often expected to be creative and confident with hair styling as well as make-up.

The course includes:

  • Preparation of hair
  • Products and styling equipment
  • Blow-drying techniques
  • Ponytails
  • Braiding
  • Heated rollers and tonging
  • Hair wefts
  • Traditional techniques for long hair including French pleats and wedding hair

The course fee includes a subsidised equipment kit. Take a look at the 'materials' for further information on kit contents.

Level:

Beginners. You should have an interest in the subject area and a desire to learn but no previous experience is required.

Tutor information

Susanna Peretz has chiefed hair and make-up departments on several award winning productions including BAFTA nominated film "Skeletons" winner of the Micheal Powell best British feature award 2010. Susanna's career in hair-shows, platform work, and fashion/editorial eventually led to film and TV. Her work has taken her throughout Europe, America and the Far East. Nominations include Avant Garde hairdresser of the year. Her skills ranges from fashion to special FX make-up, sculpting and applying prosthetics, casting and mold making. This complements her range of conventional hair skills such as hairstyling, cutting, colouring and extensions as well as wig-dressing, wig-making and hair punching.

Materials

A complete kit is required to take part in the course and is included in the course fee. The kit consists of:

  • Professional hair dryer with diffuser
  • Straightening irons
  • Ceramic rollers
  • Curling tongs
  • Training head
  • Plastic, metal, dressing and fine cutting combs
  • Thermal, backcombing and Denman styling brushes
  • Section clips
  • Hairdressing scissors
  • Water spray
