The course will provide an overview of how computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing can be applied to the traditional skills of pattern cutting, grading, lay planning and fashion design. You'll learn to use various CAD/CAM software packages which include Adobe Illustrator, Gerber and Optitex 3D.
The course will start with teaching you how to use Adobe Illustrator for specification sheets and technical drawing skills for a garment and then move onto using Gerber for pattern development as well as creating a pattern to industry standards for a garment.
The course will also show you how to use Gerber for pattern grading as well as layplanning and costing.
The course also will give you the opportunity to practice using Optitex 3D for sewing and fitting a garment on to a virtual model
The course includes:
Beginners (with some computer experience). You should have an interest in the subject area and a desire to learn but no previous experience is required.
Your course place is confirmed once you have booked online or via the phone using a credit or debit card. There is no deadline for booking. Places are offered on a first come, first served basis, and all courses have a maximum number of students. We suggest you book early to avoid disappointment.
Megan Mcguire began working at London College of Fashion in 2004 and completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning for Art and Design in 2007. Megan has gained a substantial amount of CAD/CAM experience, particularly on packages used for pattern cutting, grading, and lay planning. She has worked for fast-paced high street suppliers as well as for large well established brands in the middle market such as Windsmoor, Planet, Precis Petite, and Jacques Vert. She has also undertaken freelance and consulting work, as well as contributing to a recently published book on pattern cutting.
