BA (Hons) Sculpture
BA Sculpture at Camberwell College of Arts aims to establish students as confident conceptual and practical makers that value the importance of experimentation and critical thinking.
The intention of the course is that students will develop a deep understanding of contemporary sculpture.

Content: what students can expect
- A dynamic studio-based culture, where students rigorously investigate the potential of materials
- Practical work complemented by a range of activities including seminars, critiques, talks and gallery visits led by course tutors, international practitioners, artists and curators
- To test how your artworks are installed, received and understood by participating in an external exhibition with students from across Camberwell’s Fine Art programme

- In your third year, students have the opportunity to choose between a dissertation, a work placement or live project, such as setting up a solo exhibition
- A Fine Art lecture series open to all Camberwell undergraduate students studying Drawing, Painting, Photography and Sculpture
By retaining single subject degrees in Fine Art at undergraduate level, Camberwell offers students the chance to study Painting, Sculpture, Photography and Drawing in-depth, while still enabling students to access cross-course teaching and facilities, as well as work with their peers in other Fine Art areas.
All undergraduate Fine Art students at Camberwell attend cross-course crits and tutorials throughout their course, even though they are primarily based in their own subject areas.

Work experience and opportunities
BA Sculpture students have the opportunity to exhibit their work at external venues in London. Previous spaces have included Dilston Grove, CGP London, Shoreditch Town Hall and The Biscuit Factory in Southwark.
Students have the chance to take part in an exchange programme during their second year, with leading international art schools in New York, Tokyo, Milan, Madrid and Brussels amongst our recent exchanges.

How to apply

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) application deadline is 15 January.
Following your UCAS application to this course all home / EU applicants will be invited to choose a date for a selection event.
What is a selection event?
A selection event is similar to an interview. You will be expected to bring your portfolio, which will be reviewed by course teams. The event will also give you a chance to meet current students, take a tour of the college and see the facilities.
More details about your selection event will be emailed to you once you have chosen your selection event date.

Interviews and portfolio reviews - international students can be interviewed in a number of different ways:
- By phone or Skype
- In your country, if your application was made though one of our official representatives
- At our international office based at Chelsea College of Arts
Through the Study Abroad programme international students can apply to join an undergraduate course.

We select students based on the quality of their applications, looking primarily at their portfolio of work, personal statements and reference.
The standard minimum entry requirements for this course are:
- A Level - 2 A levels grade C or above
- or Pass at Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (Level 3 or 4)
- or Pass, Pass, Pass at BTEC Extended Diploma
- or Pass at UAL Extended Diploma
- or Access to Higher Education Diploma
- or Equivalent EU or non-EU qualifications. For example - International Baccalaureate Diploma pass achieved at 28 points or above
- and 3 GCSE passes grade C or above
We will also consider other evidence of prior learning and experience via Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning - AP(E)L and / or alternative qualifications assessed as offering the same level as the above requirements.
English language requirements
All classes are taught in English. If English isn't your first language you must provide evidence at enrolment of the following:
- IELTS level 6.0 or above, with at least 5.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking (please check our English Language requirements)
- Your portfolio should include visual research you have conducted, contextual statements, sketchbooks and any supporting material made in the development of your work
- It is important to carefully edit and select the contents of your portfolio so that you can discuss your working methods and decisions
- If you include video work you should bring a laptop or tablet with the video file set up to play
At interview and portfolio review
We look for:
- An ability to explore, articulate and develop ideas
- An ability to research information and visual material to support your ideas
- Your portfolio to demonstrate a range of appropriate skills and technical abilities
- An ability to communicate your ideas visually, verbally and in writing
- An ability to self-direct and evaluate your own work
This course will give consideration to deferred entry application.

Careers and alumni
BA Sculpture graduates include four artists represented in the Saatchi Collection's British Art in the Nineties exhibition, Turner Prize nominee Cathy de Monchaux as well as many more who are now successfully working in studio practice.
Our students have also taken placements with AB Foundry, Engineered Arts, Horniman Museum, Royal National Theatre and Tate Britain, while many others continue their practice on postgraduate programmes at the Royal College of Art, Royal Academy and the Slade.
BA Sculpture alumni have worked with galleries including Stephen Friedman Gallery, White Cube, the Royal Festival Hall as well as for artists such as Cerith Wyn Evans, Angus Fairhirst and Anthony Gormley.
